Looking to start going to the gym but honestly I only ever used the machines. I’m trying to actually gain some muscle mass but I have no clue where to start with cable machines and free weights. Where do I learn? Any advice? Good creators to check out?

I have no idea why that guy recommended Olympic weightlifting to you, that's clearly not going to be best for muscle growth. I'm also not sure why you need to use things other than machines. As long as you are able to progressively increase the weight you can lift over time your muscles will be growing. Just look up exercises to target different muscles and get stronger. Try TNF as a reliable source of information about bodybuilding

I’ll look into that. I go with some guys on occasion and they know all these different workouts with free weights, like I just know curls. Idk how they find all these different things and have the knowledge to piece the together into a circuit essentially

If you go down the Olympic lifting path you’ll be doing like 7 movements total in the gym

7 movements to hit all the muscle groups? Insane

You’re not really ever going to hit chest but your shoulders back and legs will get hit hard. If you want chest development too just throw dips and incline bench in at the end of a workout

Is it the best for pure hypertrophy, no. Does it allow you to hold 100ks over your head in 2 years of training, yes, and that feels awesome.
