Not trying to any misogynistic implications in what I’m asking, but I’m genuinely asking where the “women tend to have stronger legs than men” came from. I see it all the time, but you can literally just go to a gym and see it’s not true.

usually people are referring to one of two things 1. women being proportionally stronger in the legs as compared to their upper body, in comparison to men 2. women tend to train legs more than upper body, and vice versa (showing generally, obviously many people train both evenly). this can result in women who are disproportionately stronger in their lower body compared to average male gymgoers or leg day skippers

I think it’s meant to be like a proportional thing - like women have stronger legs in proportion to their upper body strength than guys do

As a girl I’ve been confused about this too, maybe for glute exercises but otherwise I have yet to see that statement having much truth to it

I think it’s because women’s thighs are generally thicker (not necessarily stronger) but just bigger

Women tend to have bigger legs for 2 reasons. 1 because they find it more appealing for their physique. And 2 because women usually store more fat there. Women naturally tend to store more fat around their womb for obvious reasons

Someone told me it’s because men’s muscle mass is mostly in the upper body and women’s is in their lower body, and something about our center of gravity being in different places. I’m a man and my legs are 1,000x stronger than my arms so idk 🤷🏾‍♂️

I think it came from the common joke claiming that men skip leg day and women obsess over it

It is true that women’s lower bodies are closer to men’s legs than women’s upper bodies are to men’s upper bodies, but it still isn’t particularly close

it's a relative comparison. usually people don't mean "women can squat more than men" they mean "women have a higher percentage of their muscle in their lower body compared to men"

Well that is true to an extent, any guy who skips legs is a pussy tho

Definitely not bigger legs by default in terms of muscularity. Obviously women emphasize them more because it’s what’s appealing, but a trained male lower body is far beyond a trained female lower body.

Yes, bigger legs by default but just in general. Never said anything about muscularity

Well the original post says stronger, and we’re talking about size in the context of muscularity. I thought that was obvious
