i used to be so heavy into working out and knew a lot and i feel like i forgot. anyways, i wanna lose weight and basically size off my body. i don’t want to put muscle where the fat is gonna go. is low weight high rep and cardio best for me?

Why would you do any weight training if your only goal is to lose weight

Lose weight is eat less workout more. Weight and reps don’t matter, the low rep strength high rep tone is a myth. As you lose weight you will lose size too

the more muscle you have the more cals you burn at rest (higher metabolism), so the best way to lose weight and keep it off is building muscle. and you can’t get bulky unless you’re trying to! i lift heavy(ish) 3x a week and do light strength/mobility the other days. & cardio everyday and i’ve leaned out & lost a lot of fat!

i literally had the same thing 😭 how i got over binge eating was just fueling my body correctly. like purposefully waking up and having protein, healthy fats, carbs, etc. for every meal. when i stayed consistent with that i stopped craving other stuff because my body has what it needs

Just curious, is lifting heavy a preference or do you know if it’s “better” in some sense

You want to be strong, not gain much muscle, and not do heavy weight training. I need you to lock in and pick two of those because you can't have all 3

i know okay 😭😭😭 like i don’t wanna be weak basically but being strong rn isn’t a huge concern, i just am trying to look a lot leaner and will then focus on muscle growth after

i stopped counting calories, as long as you’re giving your body the nutrients it needs you’re good. once i stopped counting calories i was so much happier

lifting heavy allows for more muscle growth so in that sense it’s “better” but any movement is good movement! also i don’t like try to pr or anything, just use a weight that pushes me!

im gonna do cardio everyday 5 days a week and 3 days a week do one upper body one lower body and one full body. full body will be lighter weight and the other solo days will be a bit heavier but nothing crazy.

it is true for most people to some extent. it depends on your preference for muscle mass (if it's low, you'll get "too bulky" quickly just because you think bulky is any amount of muscle) and whether you're in a surplus (extra fat = extra bulk, and people blame that on the lifting instead of their diet). gaining muscle is a slow process and will not happen by accident, though

to gain muscle you need to get close to failure. and a lot of people find it easier and more preferable to go to failure with heavy weights. to go to failure with lighter ones you need to do way more reps.
