I’m considering getting into working out but just like anyone who is starting, I’m struggling to find inspiration. I’m a mechanical engineering junior in college, 26, 200lbs, 5,9. I am somewhat fit, but not athletic by any means. Anyone have any tips?

For context, I try to go to the gym twice a week given the lack of time. My husband goes 5/7 days. I’ve thought about joining him but I like that he’s making progress and I don’t want to drag him down. We have accepted our circadian rhythms where he wakes up early and goes to the gym and goes to bed early. Meanwhile I only go on weekends, because I wake up later (at 08AM) and go to bed later (02AM Because I’m a night owl and I use this to my advantage to stay on top of my homework).

At least for me it helped me to have a set schedule for the gym? I go 5 days a week and each day I do specific things and go at a specific time. Not sure if that helps but I hope it does :D

What about diet? Anything specific?

Specific diets tend to only work for limited periods of time until you get sick of them. I recommend downloading a macro tracking app. That way your caloric deficit is much easier to sustain because you can still include your favorite foods and have confidence that you are slowly but surely losing weight. There are even some that can give you decent estimates just by taking pictures of your food, which is a good place to start.

If this was me I would start by adding one more resistance training workout on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. No more than 30-45 minutes long. Then I would go for a 20 minute walk every other day.
