Question on compound lifts, mainly squats - I’ve been doing low reps heavy weight, like 3-5 reps per set. Once I hit a 5x5 at a weight, I go up in weight and lower the reps back down to 3. My question is - when I lower the reps, should I increase the sets

8 sets is excessive, 5 is plenty even with your higher weight lower reps

The only reason to change your sets would be if if you're not recovering from the volume youre doing

Keep the number of sets the same

? Like do 8 sets for 3 reps or 6 sets for 4 reps? Or should I keep it at 5 sets?

I’ll note that I do other exercises in the same session with higher rep ranges, like leg extensions hamstring curls leg press etc

Ive doing 8 sets lately since I moved up in weight and can only get 3 reps atm. But thats prolly too much cuz ever since my progress at this weight has been super up and down. Based on the other comments im gonna dial it back down to 5 sets and keep it that way
