My bf and I agreed last night to do a triathlon together. Our city has a smaller one on July 21st so we are going to try to make it🤞🏻does anyone have any tips to training up for it?? I like swimming & biking but I HATE running (it’s only a 5k tho)

So for starters is it an open water swim or pool swim? For the bike is your area flat or hilly? And do you bike and swim regularly currently?

For clarification, the running portion is 3.1 mi. The swimming and biking are obvi more on top of that, but again, I’m not AS worried about those. Especially if running is last, I’m worried about losing my endurance within the swimming/biking and pooping out on the run :/ would love any advice

I’ve done a ton of sprint triathlons and I’m a horrible runner. I have the swim and the bike down but the run is tough. Worst thing that can happen though is that you have to walk for a bunch of it. And usually small ones have a mixture of fast and slow people so you won’t be alone if you end up walking/running.

Yes any bike works. Only time you want to spend money on a good bike or triathlon specific one is when you’re fast (like my brother) he has an expensive tri bike but I just have a normal road bike which does well. I would suggest staying away from mountain bikes if you can but I’ve seen plenty of people use those in races

Honestly, I don’t lol. I have only just recently started to get back into the gym and I work two jobs so I haven’t been dedicating a ton of time and effort yet. I would consider myself a strong swimmer tho and I used to bike a lot. I’m going to bet that the bike will be a little hilly just based off where we live. The website does not have great descriptions tbh but it’s at a park w a lake so I’m assuming swimming in that. The hills probably won’t be insane (hopefully)

It’s 750m swim, 20K bike, 5K run

Did you have any specific schedule of training beforehand? I’m honestly not that intimidated by anything but the run but I don’t want to show up assuming I’ll be fine with no prep lol. We’re going to bike and swim at our gym tmrw I know, but yeah running is something I’ll probably have to work on. Ugh I HATE running lmao😅

I’ve been an athlete since I was little so I’m usually pretty active but I never did a ton of training for the triathlons. They are mostly just a fun thing to do in the summer with my dad and brother. I didn’t trained running and so that was always my slow leg of the race.

Did y’all invest in really good bikes? Neither of us have one of our own rn (mine is back in Texas and my mom uses it now) but I am not really looking to spend a ton on one. Bikes for triathlons specifically seem to be a minimum of $600. :/ do you think any random $100 Walmart bike will cut it??

Sickkkkk love that. I might invest if we actually want to do it again in the future but as of now I just want to keep it basic. Thanks dude!
