RDLs ARE NOT A HAMSTRING EXERCISE. Yes, hamstrings will be involved somewhat, but it is primarily a glute exercise and you should not be treating it like a hamstring exercise. It’s like calling bench press a good tricep exercise.

You are correct. A SLDL is a better hamstring exercise. 👍

RDLs are a compound lift, I wouldn’t say they’re primarily anything when programming. They’re a lift you can improve, and then you should do targeted accessories after for specific muscles

It’s literally not lol. Hip extension and knee extension simultaneously take away tension from the hamstring and place it on the glutes. There will be some hamstring engagement obviously, but using it as a primary hamstring exercise is a poor choice when an SLDL is an option

If I do 275 lb RDLs for 10 reps am I probably doing it wrong? I’m not like an elite pro lifter or anything and I see most ppl doing less

I mean, can’t say without seeing obviously, but 275 for 10 isn’t THAT crazy. Definitely impressive, but not unbelievable

An RDL is literally designed to target the glutes by taking away leverage from the hamstrings. The entire purpose of bending the knees during an RDL is to take away leverage from the hamstrings and make it a glute movement. If you want to train hamstrings, keep the knee straight to make it an SLDL, and suddenly it’s a phenomenal hamstring exercise
