I am overweight and looking to build muscle. I am so confused because everywhere says I have to be in a calorie deficit but I know to build muscle you need to eat more than you burn. How much more should I be eating

Search up calorie deficit calculator, put in ur height weight and the other info. Start going to the gym and lifting weights. Hit ur protein goal, be in a calorie deficit, and lift- ur gonna build muscle and lose weight it just takes time

If you’re overweight you should still gain muscle with your normal calories or even a little under that.

That’s the problem, I can’t be in a calories deficit. To build muscle I need to eat more but it’s unclear how much. If I eat enough and train my fat will turn to muscle. But I can’t figure out how much more to eat because everything is talking about eating less

Fat + muscle are different. When you lose weight, you’ll lose fat (in a deficit, lifting, + hitting protein goal) which will reveal ur muscles. To build them u just have to keep lifting + hitting ur protein goal. Use an online calorie deficit to calculate ur cals for losing weight, then when ur satisfied with ur weight u can use it again to recalculate cals. I would lose the weight first so u can see ur muscles then increase cals slightly while still lifting n meeting protein goals

So I want to build muscle first and then cut the fat. I know there is a magic number for a surplus you need to eat for your muscles to grow and fat to just act as fuel for the muscle growth

Food is fuel for muscle, not fat. Hit ur protein goal and eat enough for ur body. An online calculator will also tell u how much to eat based on ur height and weight and level of activity in order to lose, maintain, or gain weight.

But I just want to turn my fat into muscle without having to eat in a deficit

Impossible. Fat is fat, muscle is muscle. One cannot transform into the other, they are separate. At the end of the day it’s science, eat in a deficit, hit protein goal, and lift ur gonna lose weight and build muscle. There is no way around it, it was when I locked in and accepted that what I didn’t wanna do (eat in a deficit, hit protein, lift) is what will make my body transform and it did.

Dude that can’t be true. My skinny friend only started to gain muscle after eating more, so overweight people also need to eat more to transform fat to muscle

I think you’ve misunderstood. It’s because you’re overweight that you can keep your original calories or go into a deficit. Your skinny friend does need the extra calories because he doesn’t have excess energy to burn in the form of fat. Just make sure you’re getting enough protein and not starving yourself.

no that’s not true. u need to eat more protein specifically to maintain growing muscle. u don’t need to eat more of everything in general. u also literally cannot transform fat into muscles. they’re molecularly different things, it’s not possible. if u want to lose fat, burn more calories than u eat
