“It has nothing to do with just eating less” Where to people get the audacity to make the most delusional, uneducated, absurd statements you’ve ever heard? This mentality is what keeps people from achieving their goals, because their cope warps reality

Well I haven’t experienced it first hand, but I understand mechanistically that it can increase hunger signaling and decrease overall energy levels, which makes maintaining a calorie deficit more difficult. I also understand that mechanistically, it does not change the principle of a calorie surplus or deficit being the only mechanism by which fat gain or loss occurs.

as someone with PCOS the poster is right it is a super shitty thing to have and it does make things harder, however, it does not actually affect your ability to watch your food and calories. it makes it harder to maintain discipline because of the increased hunger and decreased energy like the comments before me said - but it does not actually affect how cutting calories affects your body.

I’m sorry you have to deal with those disorders. It is not fair, and I imagine that it makes things much more difficult. I am not here to shame you for having difficulty, as it is entirely understandable. What I also will not do, is misrepresent the mechanisms by which fat loss occurs, for those with or without these conditions for the sake of relieving others of the burden of agency.

I believe it is far more damaging to tell someone that they cannot control their situation, than it is to recognize that despite the increased challenges they may face due to their circumstances, they still have the capacity to overcome them. You can do it, and I am on your side 100% of the way there, but the first step undeniably has to be accepting that you have to work within the confines of your own unique circumstances, and that it is unproductive to allow them to be excuses.

Several of my clients have had PCOS as well, and I gave them a very similar speech. It sucks that this is the hand they were dealt, but they have the choice between allowing it to be an excuse for them for the rest of their lives, or to just accept that they’re going to have to work a little harder than everyone else. The hard workers, with my coaching, got results. You have to want it more than your circumstances hold you back.
