YOU 🫵 YES YOU 🫵 SHOULD. NOT. BE. BULKING!!! If you are not LEAN, as in clear and defined abs LEAN, gaining weight will have absolutely ZERO benefits for muscle growth, and you’re literally just going to get fat. MAINTENANCE OR A SLIGHT DEFICIT PLEASE

*maintenance or a slight surplus* You’ll gain just as much muscle with a 100 calorie surplus as you would with a 1000 calorie surplus but if you are always in a defect you will never gain muscle (unless you’re on gear)

I think bulking is fine but so many people start bulking and then just end up in a rut where they’re just a fat person with muscle for a long, long time

This just isn’t true, you can absolutely put on muscle in a slight deficit if you have excess fat

For the first year or so when you’re untrained this is true, but for someone that been in the gym for a bit and has excess fat but still wants to build muscle you need to be in a slight surplus.

Not sure where you got that from, but it just isn’t true lol. Your biology doesn’t suddenly demand a surplus past a certain point. My references are a degree in exercise science, and 9 years of natural training.

Agree to disagree, at the end of the day it’s a difference of like 300 cals

Not sure what there is to disagree on lol, it’s just a fact. The only dietary factors that matter to building muscle are: 1. Enough protein to build muscle 2. Adequate carbs to fuel workouts 3. Adequate fat intake for hormone balance 4. Existing at a healthy bodyfat % again, for proper hormones If you cover all of those variables, which you can easily do at maintenance, or even a slight deficit, you will be maximizing hypertrophy.

There’s just no point to it. It doesn’t make you build muscle any faster
