Very few people who use it have any idea of how their bodies work or what "toned" actually means, they just like how the word sounds as opposed to "muscular"

People think that “toning” is a thing you can do to a muscle, as opposed to just building muscle and losing fat. It leads to a bunch of bullshit workouts targeted at women especially who are afraid of getting too muscular that don’t do shit. “Toning” isn’t a thing. “Being toned” is a thing, but it’s just more muscle, less fat
