If you’re referring to solely abs as core, couldn’t you just put them in on a leg day so you could do 2x frequency instead of 1x for everything else? Even if you have goals beyond aesthetics you could choose different exercises for core/abs on leg day 1/2 to ensure all functions are being trained and rotate after a period of time.
you are 100% correct, but i have always disregard it tbh, so i made it its own day. my goal of working out is being able to move my body weight (calisthenics). i have lost about 50lbs, 200 -> 150. I always hit core with my days, but as i’ve been piling more on my certain muscles, i neglect core, so i made it a day so it doesn’t lag behind my other muscles.
So then wouldn’t you just increase the volume you do for core/abs to the higher end of what’s suggested while decreasing the volume for other muscles to a maintenance level to account for recovery until you reach the end date of your program? Or put them at the beginning of your leg days while swapping for more stable compounds if abs become a hindrance to quality sessions?
