Are smith machine froggies worth it for the glute gains? Such a goofy exercise but I fear it might be the best mind the muscle connection for my gloots

Nope. "Mind muscle connection" isn't a driver of muscle growth. Your body grows muscle in response to increased challenges. That exercise is awkward and probably difficult to progressively increase the weight as your body adapts to new stimulus. A hip thrust is essentially the exact same movement but much more stable

If you want a big ass, squat, deadlift, lunges, and back extensions are the only 4 exercises you need
