Ego lifters are so funny to watch. Just say a guy plate hog, to leg press 540lbs, and only do shitty half reps and fail after 4 reps. Like dude what are u doing
There’s this dude I see at my gym regularly, late 60s early 70s. Loads up 4 plates on the smith machine for squats, and sets the safeties of the smith like 6 inches under the bar, and does sets of like 3 with 1/16 ROM and putting his hands on his knees to assist himself.

7 plates of 45 per side?

Far from the first guy too, old people seem to just LOVE ego-lifting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone over the age of 70 do a rep with more than 1/8 range of motion.

Ok, so first of all, 14 times 45 is 630, not 540. Second, most 45 degree leg press sleds are about 118 pounds, so 7 plates is 748 pounds.

Ok so i made a math error. My point still stands. It was too heavy for him but he insists on working that weight for his ego, bottom line

No yeah point still stands. I can’t even fathom it tbh, because literally nobody is impressed if your form is shitty. It’d make sense if ego lifting actually made you look cool, but you just look like an idiot.

My theory as to why old people ego lift more is because they’re trying to convince themselves they can still lift what they could in their youth. It’s gonna be me fr
