i feel hopeless when it comes to losing weight. with hormone issues and medications all against me it feels impossible. it’s always “just stay in a calorie deficit” but i’m practically starving myself and no change. i just have no energy and low sugar now

for context i’m 5’6” and at least 250. i’m super bulky so i’ve always been over the average weight, even as a kid (doctor considered me obese even when i had a flat stomach). i’ve hated my body pretty much my entire life. my ex was ashamed of me and my weight. i’m just so tired of being fat and ugly

Fats are harder to break down so it takes time. Are you eating or drinking enough protein?

Full blown fasting, I’ve found, does wonders for hormone reset.

It takes time. When you first start, you may not see changes for weeks. I just put your information through a TDEE calculator (5’6, 250 lbs, assuming you’re 19) and 2311 cals is how much you should be eating to maintain your physique. To lose weight, you need to eat about 1811 calories which is doable. My favorite is Fage 0% greek yogurt with berries and honey for breakfast and it clocks about 250 calories with 25g of protein. You can keep this stuff in your mini fridge if you have one.

it’s actually so bad. the student athletes have to eat like four burgers a day to bulk up bc there’s no other options

Increase your activity level and decrease your caloric deficit slightly. Aim to lose 0.5 lbs each week if you need a general outline to follow. If you struggle with exercise the incline treadmill can be a great way without feeling exhausted. Daily consistency will always beat novelty.

i really only eat the burgers if i’m desperate. the salad bar is pathetic and usually infested with flies. i try to just stick to cooked vegetables and whatever other meat option they have that isn’t fried chicken or mystery meat slop

Does your college not have other foods besides burgers? There’s also other ways of getting protein.

they do but most of it is either fried or undercooked. food poisoning is rampant here and i got it from one of the burgers one time. they also like to serve pink chicken. rice is usually hard as a rock, pasta noodles chewy and sauce tasting like it came from the trash. they used to have quinoa which was great but ofc, budget cuts. it’s just tacos, burgers, and general tso chicken anymore. it’s a blessing when they have something like meatloaf

i eat a lot of chicken tenders now bc there’s a guy that i can watch check the temp with a thermometer. only safe meat really

i used to use the incline treadmill here at my university before i got too busy to find the time to do it. maybe i’ll try to get in there a few times a week

Just take walks after your meals and make an effort to walk more in general and you’ll be fine

Okay that’s fair about not eating other foods. I’m going to assume you live in a dorm. Do you work?

yep, i’m in a dorm. sorry i didn’t answer that earlier, got a little distracted. i don’t have access to a freezer or cooking utensils rn. i don’t work bc i don’t have a car. too poor for a car but not poor enough to qualify for on-campus jobs 😭

Anyone should be able to to apply for a college part time job. My college lets anyone work on campus and even the another one I got accepted into they do the same. Did they tell you can’t work on campus?

yeah, i need to qualify for federal work study for most positions, and i don’t. the only job openings they really have open for people who don’t qualify are sports laundry… and i have more respect for myself than stooping to washing jockstraps for $8.75/hr (every job pays minimum wage and is like less than 10 hours a week anyway)

Well you’ll have to find something for a part time job, so you can afford to buy better ways to get protein. Is there not any walking distance jobs?

no. campus is quite literally on the top of a mountain and thirty minutes from any stores or anything. they don’t call us the hilltoppers for nothing 🫩

I can’t do 3 meals a day so I like to delay my breakfast until 12-1pm and then have 2 meals a day with a protein shake if I need it. You’re going to be hungry but make sure you’re not confusing hunger with thirst

Walking at least 10k steps a day dropped my weight so much. If you can’t do that 1-2 days during the weekday, try making it up on the weekend by clocking 15-20k steps. I like going urban hiking just for fun and picking a coffee shop to study at
