Guidelines for anyone wanting to make a split. 1. Hit every muscle group at least 2x a week, and at maximum, every other day. 2. Put priority muscles first in your workouts. 3. Weekly volume should be between 4-12 sets per muscle, divided among workouts.

4. At minimum, 1 rest day per week, more is better though That is everything you need to make a split. People overcomplicate this shit all the time and think that a new split will change their physique. This is all there is to it. Fill out this criteria for your split, and let be.

Thanks for this! Are there certain muscle groups that should usually be trained in the same day? I know there are splits like PPL. Does this really matter?

It really doesn’t matter at all. PPL is just a convenient way to remember which muscles go on which days, but it really doesn’t matter. You can mix up your days however you want to. The way I personally make my splits is by tiering them based on what’s most important to me and splitting that up to ensure I can hit them first, and then just fit my other exercises in to even out my split.
