I do the push pull legs split and it works perfectly because most exercises hit multiple muscles, such as bench press hitting chest and triceps, hence why you group these muscles into the same day. To build muscle, you got to lift HEAVY. 6-8 reps and your last rep you should be fighting for your life to get that weight up. If you can’t get it up, hold it there.
