Obviously Jerusalem was always the ultimate goal but with the way the Fatimids were repeatedly trounced on the battlefield it seems in hindsight that the better strategic decision would’ve been to launch an invasion of Egypt before pressing on to take Jerusalem after securing one of the richest parts of the Eastern Mediterranean as a supply base. This may have taken years but a firmly established Catholic monarchy in Egypt I think could’ve easily taken and held of the Levant
