I was talking politics with this girl and she’s very clearly a progressive and she was telling me about the terrible war crimes the US committed and I thought she was gonna talk about Iraq but then she brought up the Sullivan Campaign which impressed me

In some ways the campaign resembled the English chevauchee or Sherman’s march to the sea

I will say that when we talk about historical warfare it’s important to judge events by the standards of the day rather than by modern standards because modern soldiers frequently can’t live up to our standards so what shot do guys in the 1700s have. The campaign was what it needed to be, a fast action to protect his flank and eliminate a British ally in North America and this was accomplished through scorched earth tactics which have always been a part of war
