no she has oral herpes (she gets cold sores) but she didn’t have an active outbreak at the time. Her doctor told her as long as she wasn’t having an active outbreak she couldn’t transmit it. That was wrong unfortunately for me 😭 crazy part is my doctors told me the same thing when they diagnosed me
having the virus is permanent. having the blisters and this amount of pain is not thankfully. i thought life was over when i first got diagnosed but I’m starting to see that after this outbreak it’s just about management to try and prevent another breakout (breakouts after this one won’t be as long or as painful)
Like sure a lot of people have herpes, but if 60% of all people have herpes that’s not exactly a good thing, like, at all. Like the whole point of diseases, especially if they’re permanent and not just a common cold, is to never catch them, and in this context always stay safe and get tested for them beforehand.
When u get tested for STD’s, they don’t test for herpes generally unless you specifically ask for it or have active lesions like I did. They don’t test for it because it isn’t always transmitted sexually, it’s tested thru blood or an active lesion sample, and a lot of people have the virus and don’t know it. I mean yeah it’s definitely not a good thing that 60% of people have it.
i’m currently on valacyclovir to deal with the outbreak im in rn. after that my doctors wanna see if i have anymore bc i guess hsv 1 breakouts are less common in the genital area. if i have frequent breakouts they’ll probably keep me on the valacyclovir, if not there’s not really any need for it. also bc my gf gave me the virus she already has it. i cant give it to her again.
