That as well as shorthaired thin breeds in places with freezing temperatures if they aren’t giving proper care like coats and paw protection in the winter. Both should automatically classify as animal abuse

Should be illegal to have a dog, period. We should not be domesticating and breeding animals for our own selfish desires.

It’s stockholm syndrome.

I would definitely disagree with it being Stockholm syndrome and that no animal should be domesticated. Some animals domesticated /themselves/ and the ones life dogs were domesticated by consistent positive human interaction like people leaving them food or hunting with them, which is a symbiotic relationship common among other species.

There is definitely unethical breeding practices but selective breeding is much more consistently about the health of the offspring rather than some strange selfish desire to exploit the animal.

“Some animals domesticated themselves” is NOT what is happening today. Animals are being bred, possibly forcibly inseminated, and then they have offspring which are separated from their parents at a young age. Then humans imprint on their young, so they start to form a bond. The breeding has gotten so bad, that many actually deem genital mutilation (spaying and neutering) as “ethical”. So no. No animal chose to be separated from their biological parents and to have their balls chopped off.

Dogs have evolved to form emotional connections with humans. Their relationship with us is helpful for their survival. Wtf are we supposed to do with all these dogs, release them out into the wild? They’re domesticated by design, the deed has already been done. All we can do now is take them in and continue the fruitful relationship

So yes self domestication is still happening to this day, currently observable in coyotes and possibly orcas (but they may be trying to domesticate US which is interesting!). But some of the things you mentioned are just poor breeding practices and not an inherent part of domestication. But neutering isn’t inherently harmful towards an animal, it just depends, and calling it broad spectrum genital mutilation is just strange. It’s not causing them pain or removing nerves, it’s sterilization.

Controlling population of a domesticated animal by sterilization is a much more humane approach than killing shelters. So my question to you is, compared to what? What would be a more ethical way (in your opinion) to handle dogs specifically that have been domesticated for centuries and they exist everywhere even in environments they are technically invasive in, that have been living with humans for centuries and relying on us for food, medical care, shelter, grooming, etc. what do we do?

Obviously no animal chooses to have their balls chopped off but they also don’t choose any of their medical care because they are dogs who can’t comprehend those things so we make decisions for them and about them.

Dogs did not “evolve” to be our slaves through nature. They were groomed by humans. Calling genital mutilation “medical care” is crazy work. Humans are also overpopulated our planet; would you call forced sterilization of people “medical care”? I would just be more human to stop it at the source and ban breeding.
