Weed is addictive and people who use the whole “but it’s not chemically addictive” argument are just in denial. You can go through withdrawals from it if you smoke heavily just like with any other drug even if they’re objectively not as bad.

I think what they mean is it’s not chemically addictive, but it can be mentally addictive. Not everyone gets addicted but some, like myself, can. Chemical addiction is when your body NEEDS it. It’s taken over your system and is dependent on the substance. Mental addiction is ingrained on how the substance makes you feel, and you crave that feeling

dependence ≠ addiction. whether or not there is such a thing as marijuana *addiction* is still highly debated among educated professionals. the formal term most often used is "marijuana use disorder", which describes the state of that dependence, and again, is not an addiction. i wanna be clear this isn't just petty semantics this is an important distinction when discussing substance use disorders and addiction. it's not just "not as bad" it is fundamentally a different physiological effect

My psychiatrist told me it was addictive so I’ll believe someone with a PHD before a pot head (not meant to be derogatory just, you know, pot heads 🤷)

When I quit pot I had no physical withdrawals (I actually felt way better). But the mental withdrawals were awful. I felt my brain constantly wanting to get high since it was basically part of my routine at that point. I loved the calmness I felt. I felt like I NEEDED it. But my body didn’t

Addiction is awful, no matter what the substance is. And anyone can get addicted to anything. It’s important to be aware of what’s going on internally and be mindful of your circumstances

I’d like to point out that your brain is a part of your body

Can you cite your source on this?

Yes, but there’s a difference between the physical and the psyche. They correlate heavily but emotions are still their own separate thing. I believe your view on this is nihilistic, which isn’t necessarily bad, but insisting others are wrong due to your interpretations is not on

I’m literally an MD/PhD and disagree. I also smoked a hell of a lot in my life. Science is showing more and more that this isn’t true. Also, PhD =|= MD =|= PsyD. Your bias against people who smokes stems from racist ideology. Cannabis used to be prescribed by physicians until it became associated with Mexican Americans. Look into the history - i’m sure you’ll be surprised.
