What if you had a kid that got a disability later in life? Would you disown them just because you don’t think you’re fit to care for someone with a disability?

I agree not bc I won’t love the child but I’m sure they’re gonna get bullied and embarrassed about themselves at some point so I don’t want them to feel ashamed of themselves.

You’re a legal adult at 18 who can functionally do things yourself. these are not the same as a person with downs who need help with everything even until they’re old asf.

That’s not always true, my sister best friend has downs. She’s engaged, works, lives in her own apartment, and drives. She bought me drinks at the bar last week. It’s a stigma thinking everyone with downs can’t function on their own, some can and some can’t. Just like a normal 18, some can navigate the world and come can’t do it alone.

Either way, when you have children.. that’s a lifelong commitment. It doesn’t just stop when they turn 18, that’s actually when the harder work begins
