People overuse terms like pedo, abuser, rapist, and coercion and it dilutes the strength of those words so people no longer take those accusations as seriously anymore.

The bigger issue is that conversations like this shift attention away from whether someone’s actually been harmed and onto whether their wording was correct or not. Shit like this just makes people more skeptical of victims before ever hearing their story

I don't think the terms being overused are what dilute the strength. What's actually diluting them are people downplaying the actions. A guy had once flirted with me online after I was honest about being 16. I had seen him again years later after joining a server. I left and when the guy who invited me asked why, I told him what happened and called the guy a pedophile. The friend of the pedophile said that his friend wasn't a pedo because it was "only flirting".

So no, what actually dilutes these terms are people downplaying actions and saying that things aren't rape or pedophilia because it's not "extreme" enough to them.

I am assuming you’re not at all involved in gaming communities but it is specifically an AWFUL problem there. Someone will play a character someone does not like and is immediately spam called a pedo for it. I am speaking more on those spaces where the words are used out of context so when someone hears the word in a serious context they’re just like “eh” because they immediately think it is BS

Know I know what you're talking about because the experience I described happened within a pretty big gaming community. The shit you're describing is the RESULT of the accusations losing their meaning from people acting like they only relate to the extremes.
