My point is, in certain cases, imagery can evolve way past its original meaning. The General Lee is easily in the top 10 most recognizable cars in entertainment history. Basically nobody sees that and thinks “ah yes, racism”.

I think it’s kinda beautiful that a symbol which was associated with hate and such for a very long time instead became associated with comedy in that way. Like the ultimate fuck you to the people who actually supported confederate ideals.

Interesting take tbh. I feel like symbols carry more weight than you think. It’s like how nazis ruined the good-fortune symbol. You wouldn’t look at someone driving a car around with a swastika and think “maybe they mean it in a “spiritual protection” type of way, right?

Confederates killed about 360,000 american citizens because the Union soldiers thought skin color doesn’t determine a human beings worth.. Imagine if another country killed that many citizens today

As someone still affected by the confederacy and their racism. I do think it’s funny too how humans thought they had so much power over others just based on skin color. Like how could people see a darker color and think “they don’t think they deserve life”
