Also, to be clear, I’m not talking to people who are already usually polite and respectful or a simply existing and then respond in kind to people who are assholes to them. You owe those assholes nothing imo, if you don’t treat others with respect and kindness right from the start (this includes holding blatantly harmful ideals such as any sort of bigotry), don’t cry when you don’t receive it from others
