I agree. The second amendment wasn’t made so people can own AR15s and fuck around it was made before those existed to enable the people to fight back against the British and other possible forces. Not an invite to collect guns until absolutely necessary.

Coming from someone in a hunting family who owns their own for hunting and has crafted their own opinions after getting a damn education^

Bro it's a hobby like collecting cars or cards 😭😭 Also, it can be a genuine investment, like if you collect ammo and guns those things are likely to appreciate as assets over time, especially with market changes Lol

Cars and stamps don’t fire high velocity items tho- guns were made for one thing and that is to injure people or animals. Cars are made to go places- big difference

Say there comes a need for us to use firearms against the gov, should we fight their drones with muskets?

Exactly! This was made far before the highly engineered killing machines we have now. Go ahead and collect all the muskets in the world idgaf, but these war machines people can just buy now? Not what the founding fathers meant.

The founding fathers wrote it so that we could defend ourselves from a tyrannical government. It has nothing to do with the technology of the weapon itself. The second amendment protects every single other amendment from being ripped to shreds. Considering how often I see the left calling anyone right of center a fascist you’d think y’all would be a lot more inclined to own a firearm.

You’d think you would understand history in context but apparently not. They also used guns to defend slavery so I don’t think it’s the flex you think. We protect our rights now bc we understand how to treat people better and how much it costs to piss off poor people —they didnt need guns for the french revolution-they had them but it didnt succeed because of it. Like the american revolution didnt succeed just bc people had muskets.

Nothing a civilian can get can defend themselves from the governments weaponry. Dumbass

Ah yes pulling out insults when I’m using big educated words. Yeah you’re right we won’t be able to fight drones with muskets- but I still don’t think we need anything more powerful than what is necessary for hunting.

That’s the point. Repeal the NFA and all other unconstitutional restrictions. I should be able to own not only a purpose built select fire weapon, but also a damn rotary grenade launcher if I so please.

It’s scary how some people want less autonomy against possible tyrants

They want less autonomy against people they constantly call tyrants as well. How many times have you seen them call the current administration fascists? They’d be all about firearms if they actually believed their own lie.

There’s so many wrong statements here I’m really trying to even figure out how to respond. The historical context is that the founding fathers wanted citizens to hold power against their government forever and always. As the governments weapons advance so should the citizens. The argument that the founding fathers didn’t know that firearm technology would advance with time is completely false. There were several repeating rifle designs around during the revolutionary war.

As for slavery, yes the confederates used rifles to fight in the war, but so did the union. That’s how war works… Id also like to point out that slaves were able to be emancipated by fleeing to the union lines and were then able to join the union troops to fight against their oppressors. There couldn’t be a more clear example of why firearms are important in defending against oppression and tyranny.

We haven’t protected our rights nearly as much as we should have as essentially every amendment has some law that limits it. Free speech zones, gun control, the patriot act, and civil asset forfeiture to name a few. The only reason we the people aren’t oppressed nearly as bad as other socialist countries such as Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and China is because of our firearms.

The poor and middle class are still thrown aside especially in the US. You’re foolish to think otherwise and believe that those not in power shouldn’t have weapons to defend against their oppressors. Also the French Revolution was 100% fought with firearms so idk how you managed to pull that out of your ass. The American revolution succeeded because of brave men who stood and fought (with firearms) against the British monarchy.
