There’s nuance to this. Sometimes it’s better to mind your own business

Yeah, empathy is hard for some people and others are just selfish, I don’t get it

Some people be going through shit. I’m experiencing my own personal difficulties. I dunno if Israel or Palestine is right. I’m too focused elsewhere to care about something I can’t change.

If u are talking generally then yes but if and social context of what’s going on in the world then u being neutral/unbothered by it means u oppose everything people are doing to make the world better meaning u oppose everything good regardless of what you stand for. “If u stand for nothing then you oppose me” or i think that’s the quote😭 hopefully thats not what those people actually mean

ive been living in literal poverty the past few months. ofc i wanna care abt things effecting other people but sometimes we go thru shit where our main energy has to be getting ourselves to an actual stable place in the world first

I get what the poster means but recently I’ve been struggling a lot and haven’t been able to pay attention to a lot of things outside of my life. I do feel like there’s nuance to this.

yall are saying this to justify caring abt Israel and Palestine but when someone cares abt what’s in someone’s pants you say “why? it’s not affecting you”. (not taking a political stance) Just saying there is nuance to this statement. You can’t force people to care about things or not care about things. People have personal beliefs and experiences that affect what they want to spend their time on.

People on either side feel that they’re right, that’s why it’s such a hugely debated topic. It’s not necessarily wrong of you to focus on your life as well as recognize issues outside your own life.

It is preferred to recognize issues outside of your own life, but it’s not okay too. It’s not everyone’s responsibility

This is a hard to swallow pill for many. The world is not very accommodating. Obviously it’s nicer for people to show empathy and do kind things for each other, but in reality, everyone is busy dealing with shit in their own life. People won’t care about stuff unless it directly affects them. There are some people who choose to be affected and that’s on them, but as sad as it is, that’s how the world works.

all in all, i get the sentiment. it’s important to have empathy for others and i agree. but blanket statements like this are annoying when yeah some of us literally can only handle caring for ourselves rn just like many other struggling ppl around the world trying to survive
