What I personally don’t believe in is going straight to a psychiatrist over something that could be fixed as simply as taking care of yourself and practicing good habits. Like taking depression medication when you’re indoors all day and have 12 hour screen time, or anxiety medication when you’re addicted to smoking or something
Not everyone is able to exhibit these healthy behaviors and coping mechanisms which is what therapy is for. They guide them to take small steps to get them through these issues you may find easy to fix. Medication being given out is up to who diagnoses these individuals, which means it's up to the professional’s digression. It's great you have these skills and that you can maintain them, the mind is a crazy but great thing... and sometimes it just needs a little help to be trained!
Yeah I’m sure she just tells one side of the story to victimize herself and the therapist just eats it up and tells her what she wants to hear for a paycheck. Don’t get me wrong, there are great therapists but a lot of them are just ears and yes men and nothing more. But nothing is changing with my sister and never will. Our entire family is kinda over it at this point
You just don’t ever know what’s going on in other people’s heads. You may see someone addicted to smoking and stays indoors all the time, but they might be dealing with something way worse on the inside. They might be addicted to smoking because their parents neglected them as kids and they started smoking when they were 12 (real example from my hometown). I know when I am feeling well I do go outside and socialize, but when I got really depressed, I rarely left my room. Depression was the…
…cause, not the effect of staying inside. It’s way easier to have good habits when you’re mentally stable. I was really really down bad for a while, but now I’ve seen a therapist and psychiatrist for the past 4 years and I’m doing alright in school, I have a job, I work out and socialize, I have a long term relationship, all of which was impossible before
