I'm Puerto rican and I get the biggest ick when people refer to our indigenous peoples as Indios Taínos. Colonization got us so good our own people be saying it 🫩 Mind you, they didn't even call themselves Taínos. It should be Borikuas Indigenas.

I don’t get how people get it wrong so often I learned that when I was in elementary school and I was like “oh shit I’ve been doing that this whole time” and just switched it up

I have family in Ecuador and apparently it’s very common there to still call indigenous populations “Indians” as they don’t take offense like here in the states. It’s weird.
