Speed limits are important yo From 20 mph to 40 mph, the chance of killing a pedestrian goes up 25% for every 5 mph. To be entirely fair the speed limit is rarely set with the safety of pedestrians in mind though, and the design of the road almost never encourages drivers to follow that speed limit. Roads can be made thinner, have bricks, speed bumps, close trees, etc and will naturally decrease speed and make things safer. So there is a discrepancy. This has been your woke daily propaganda
