Why do people usually do the tradition and what does it usually mean? I’m trying to see what an interaction meant between someone

There are many contexts for garlanding, the meaning entirely depends on what’s happening atm but generally it’s a token of welcoming and appreciation/recognition. Exchanging garlands at a wedding is akin to exchanging rings, but garlanding a public official or long-separated family member or hometown hero is more like “thank you for coming! We love and miss you! Your presence is as welcome as that of the gods”

Oh okay that’s a pretty good explanation. I’m still not sure why someone did it for me though cause I hadn’t seen her in a while and she was attending an event I was hosting. There’s more details but it’s kinda long to explain
