why are we downvoting people with low GPA like thats a moral failing lmfao what? i had 0.0 high school GPA because i didn't go to high school. 3.0 community college GPA for the time period when i would have been in high school. yall are mad judgy and it's highkey embarrassing. how does anyone else’s 2.whatever GPA affect you at all???
highkey more embarrassing that you’re determining someone’s worth through a number that could be derived from ANY system. some schools are shitty, and a lot of people have learning disabilities that aren’t addressed. also, people can struggle in high school & graduate top of their class in college depending on major.
Dude I don’t think education is unimportant im the most curious and knowledgeable hungry person you’ll meet, but school is mostly useless especially high school, and gpa doesn’t matter and isn’t a measure of anything. Teach yourself things don’t rely on some dumb system to “educate” you
you'd be right that the majority are literate in the simplest form, though if 70% was your estimate you'll be glad to learn that roughly 99% of adults 15+ in the US have basic literacy (often defined by the ability to write or read a simple sentence) though around 20% of those are considered "functionally illiterate" as in, are unable to read and understand complex instructions and subtext
i'd also argue that for many of those people are likely suffering from circumstances- such as poverty, and the consequences associated with that (food/housing insecurity, drug use, parents or siblings in prison, parentification, lack of secondary educational resources, chronic stress impacting attention, etc.) and individuals with low GPAs are not the cause of this literacy crisis, even if they may be a symptom. the causes are systemic, by and large
i completely agree with you on every statement, the systematical effects are strong and social media definitely plays a part as well. these are all exact thoughts i’ve had myself. and i don’t believe people should be shamed for struggling but should have wide access to help and resources
i somewhat do believe that the pandemic caused a physical and sociological shift as well (alongside with the widespread of ai). with the access of learning online, it became significantly easier to cheat and not apply yourself or learn and i believe that also can play a factor in teenagers/young adults downplaying the importance of education
Exactly. Futhermore, in my freshman and sophomore year I lived in an extremely abusive home environment. I got a 1.9 freshman and a 0.9 sophomore. I left that home. My junior year of HS I got a 3.1 and my senior year a 3.5 while still healing from that environment. I can’t judge most people for how they did in high-school considering many children live in environments that harm their education while having no control. Now as an adult I am able to succeed.
