I think it’s probably more likely that you nor I experienced the racism that our ancestors did. And I think people are tired of being told to feel sorry or that they should recognize their privilege when they had nothing to do with being there in the first place. Getting mad at people for something they didn’t do… kinda poetic honestly
Dude yes it does. Because they aren’t the reason why prejudices exist today… There ancestors were, and most people do not perpetuate it. Most of America and I do not exaggerate when I say most of America does not hold the same “harsh prejudices” you’re referring to. Youre taking a small population of people and attributing their actions to the rest of a race. Which in and of itself is ironic to the whole issue
Also actually now that I think about it. What do you fully mean when you’re saying that it doesn’t change the fact that “harsh prejudices exist today”? Assuming you’re aware that most people don’t hold the same reservations as those exposed for being racist in media, then are you implying the sheer existence of white people is the problem? It obvious there is still a system where white people benefit more than POC. However, there isn’t more people can do aside from be aware of it and make slow
Change. However, to blame an existence as the reason or condescend those who benefit from this system when they had nothing to do with it in the first place. Will only make those accuse frustrated with you. Because at the end of the day. Most people in America believe in equal opportunities. And to take a hostile position on those who haven’t truly done anything will make them not want to take action. Whether it be big or small, you make those who could make a difference distance themselves
