Standardized decorum, including fancy terms of address, save lawyers the trouble of having to work one into a competitive ass-kissing strategy. Also, a part of me thinks it cant hurt to give em that ever so subtle reminder that they are, in fact, on their honor to decide a case correctly; very little else constrains them. There’s a reason it’s that and not “your excellency” or “your majesty”. Nobody cares if they’re excellent or majestic. But their honor is what they owe to the rest of us
