and the people who think male gynos are there just to see vaginas reminds me of those guys who think nurses are salivating over their penises… gynos have seen so many vaginas (including ones with injuries or diseases) as a part of their job. it's fine if you're not comfortable with a male gyno, but if someone wanted to see vaginas all day, they wouldn't take a job where they deal with vaginal health issues.
lol aight ig you didn’t say the exact word “weird,” but you’re acting like the only reason women are uncomfortable is because they think male gynos are horny creeps. that’s the strawman. privacy, vulnerability, trauma, religion/culture, and reproductive anatomy are all valid reasons to prefer a female gyno
so then what are we arguing about? you prefer male gynos, other women prefer female gynos. both are allowed. but acting shocked that people question male gynos is so unserious especially when most ob/gyns in the U.S. are women, most patients who have a preference prefer women, and it makes sense considering pelvic exams involve private reproductive/sexual anatomy. you can prefer a male gyno, but people being confused by that doesn’t mean they’re “fake feminist.”
sources: AAMC 2025 physician workforce data says 64.1% of active ob/gyns are women, and AAMC resident data says ob/gyn residents are 86.4% women. a review of 23 studies/14,736 patients found 50.2% preferred a female ob/gyn, 8.3% preferred male, and 41.3% had no preference. ACOG also recommends chaperones for breast/genital/rectal exams, so clearly these exams are considered sensitive even when professional.
in case you didn’t read the post I’m responding to: they’re questioning in bad faith why men would become gynos. I listed reasons why they do exist and why it’s important to women that they exist. your own statistic proves my point; that 8.3% of women (myself included) deserve to be able to choose a male gyno.
