to be honest, it’s largely debated whether herzl was an atheist or not. and while political zionism was started by him, the idea of zionism was not.

So do you as a proud Jew affirm the Jewish connection to the Land? Because Zionism as a political theory is modern, but the drive to return from exile is a core part of Judaism. It’s just tragic that return from exile was bought at the cost of a new exile of another people.

I think you’re conflating different types of Zionism. You’re right Theodore Herzl was completely secular but his vision of a Jewish state was also completely secular. There was also religious Zionism like Rav Kook who believes in returning to the land for religious reasons. Hertz will never used religion as a justification for a Jewish state. i do affirm the jewish connection to the land, theres no doubt in that, and both jews and palestinians both have ancient canaanite ancestry so i believe we (as in we groups of people) should be able to live together, but that sadly isn’t the reality

Colonization, but that was the language of the time and it has a different connotation at the time, Zionism is the largest and most successful decolonization movement of all time. They took this massive diaspora group and returned them home.

A return if a diaspora group to a place their ancestors were from and decolonization are totally different things

Sure, but Zionism is about a specific kind of return that doesn’t involve redemption form exile

What is it, if it's not decolonization?
