reading about early Zionism pre-WWI and it’s so interesting to me how Sephardic Zionists seemed to view Ottoman Christians as agents of European imperialism and a threat to the Ottoman Empire and that Muslims viewed Zionists immigrants the same way

Also the Sephardic Zionists in Ottoman Palestine saw the Palestinian Christians as the primary obstacle to Zionism, and thought they could convince the local Muslim population if they were not propagandized against it by the Christian population (which I don’t think was an entirely accurate assessment, at least not with paternalistic attitudes they held, but Zionism as a nation within the Ottoman Empire was much more compatible with a collaborative existence than as an independent polity
