Which, honestly, I think may be partially the point. They are legally justifying this as because of opposition to US foreign policy, with a law created to target Ashkenazi immigrants from Eastern Europe. That’s what it’s about, US foreign policy they are using Jews as a shield to normalize this stuff, so antisemites can deflect the blame from Trump It’s just like what the Romans did when they forced Jews to be tax collectors to get the taxed to develop an animosity towards us instead of them
It’s so frustrating because it shoves Jews (the actual victims) out of the narrative. I definitely think people like Khalil should face consequences for their actions but when it’s done this way in some hokey from of “protection” it becomes a whole other issue and makes them into victims while ignoring actual Jewish pain and suffering.
I remember we were talking about it in class when Khalil was first arrested and I was so frustrated because these goy idiots were talking about all the other stuff and blaming the Jews as if we wanted it because we wanted some basic accountability just not like this. Meanwhile I’m thinking “Oh so we’re not going to address the rampant antisemitism and endangerment of Jewish students/Jewish life because of this whole fiasco? Great awesome wow”
The are many Jewish students at Columbia who said the exact opposite. There are a portion of Jewish people who are going to follow the Likkud talking point and say anyone critical of Israel is antisemitic and endangering Jews, and whether those people believe it or not that assertion is not only not true, but it’s extremely dangerous for Jewish people everywhere, and it is even more dangerous for the Trump administration to be violating the constitution to punish people for that
