Can you be both Jewish and Christian if you’re raised as both, celebrated both religions’ holidays and studied both religions’ religious texts bc you have a Jewish mother and a Christian father? /gen

Really it comes down to if you have religious faith or not. You can absolutely partake in religious traditions from both and be part of both culturally, but when it comes to having the religious values they teach, there are significant aspects in both which contradict each other making it illogical to believe in both, mainly being that the concept of jesus does not fit standard jewish teachings.

you would be culturally and ethnically jewish and you could absolutely take traditions and inspiration from both traditions but i don’t think either religion’s mainstream would accept someone practicing both, especially because they contradict so much

Jewish is an intrinsic trait, whereas Christianity is not. If your mother is Jewish, you are Jewish regardless of what faith you practice.

if you believed that Christ is the messiah and the savior of humanity then you would not be religiously Jewish. i am not sure about this part but i think if you don’t believe Christ is the messiah and the savior of humanity than you are not religiously Christian

depends on the sect of judaism and how they feel about patrilineal jews. reform and conservative mostly would see no difference between the two situations. orthodox would mostly say that person would need to convert to be religiously jewish

Untrue. The official stance of Reform Judaism is if your father is Jewish you need to be raised Jewish in order to be a patrilineal Jew. Someone with a Jewish father raised Christian is not recognized as a Jew even by reform standards

reform judaism’s stance is you need to have one jewish parent and be raised jewish. the post says raised with both

Reform stance is that you need to have been raised specifically Jewish. Being raised equally Christian means the presumption of Jewish status is not established
