when the qu’ran says to “kill the infidel”, the infidels in question were the arab pagans who were killing arab people of the islamic faith in the specific war mentioned. the jewish people (and christians) are a protected people in the qu’ran

The definition of Kafir in traditional interpretation includes all peoples who reject Mohamed as a Prophet, not just the way it was initially applied, and a number of us have been called as much under that assumption

I just think it’s dumb to take quotes from religious texts and pretend like they reflect what every person of that religion believes. It’s the same with all the discourse around “chosen people”

who is us? because i was never taught to hate muslims. also, there are many interpretations of what the qu’ran is saying but i personally have never read it. i do know from hamas’ first charter, they used a lot of “quotes” (i use quotations marks because they could be false) to justify killing jews.

I think maybe they mean on a global political level, there’s a tension between Jews and Muslims that is fairly widely known. Even if you don’t feel that way, it exists on a larger scale

there’s a difference between political tension, though, and being taught bias and hatred from a young age.

That is true but political tension is often just the disguise for hatred

Kinda like how some “pro Palestinian” people say it’s about caring for Palestinians the political conflict but they’re clearly just using that as a front/justification for an underlying hatred of Jews. Definitely not always the case but sometimes is the case

Also a lot of hatred is pretty subconscious and many people don’t even really realize that their thoughts come from a place of hatred

what i see from that movement mainly is neo nazis who hate any non white christian people anyways hijacking it to spread their antisemitic agenda, and other people who might start off with good intentions going down antisemitic rabbit holes because of it

okay, well i spent part of my childhood in israel and that was never ever the case. none of my friends were taught that either. and my mom who grew up with arab neighbours was most definitely not taught that.

It’s kind of a running joke that people are taught that

Only when applied loosely, and in practice historically Kafirs we’re targeted it did not apply to Jews, Christians, Samaritans, and Druze Of course we still get called such sometimes, but even many Muslims do by members of certain sects

Most Muslims aren’t Arab and many Arabs aren’t Muslim (I mean there’s significant animosity towards both in Israel, but still)

While that is true amongst a certain segment of those who would call themselves anti-zionist, I feel like usually the people who don’t actually care about Palestinians don’t even describe themselves as pro Palestine in most cases, even if they will refer to attacks on Palestinians (and they are by no means dominant amongst self-proclaimed antizionists either)

I mean “chosen people” is also just totally misinterpreted, it’s referring to being chosen for a religious obligation not to be better than everyone else, and Jews are referred to as “chosen people” in both Christian and Islamic holy texts too..

I think it depends on the community in Israel
