Using holocaust symbolism to depict a Jew was your “cutesy” graphic isn’t acceptable. It’s like going “teehee timber that time we forced all the Jews to identify themselves with a yellow star then slaughtered six million of them”. There is plenty of other recognizable iconography to identify someone as Jewish outside of Nazi symbolism.

Ok maybe I’m just autistic as fuck but what’s the point of this😭it’s a lil guy with traditionally orthodox Jewish appearance and a lil star cause there’s people that don’t know what the curls and kippa mean and need an extra hint

Why tho? Like I said a random person playing might be like “wtf is this supposed to be” until they see the Star of David. I get that it’s sorta reminiscent of the holocaust but is that the only thing bothering you or like ?

dude that’s literally from the holocaust 😭

That’s what I said. Does it not at all strike you that the general public is sorta brainless and they may have done it without malice? Even with me and #1 it’s like your automatic response is to assume bad intent. My automatic reaction is just to think about the comedian that asked people about AI use and this dude literally responded that he asked Grok how to set his car seat for the most comfort.. rather than just… feeling it. The general public is allowing their brains to be melted every day-

So you think they’re doing it to be antisemitic and not just to show that it’s meant to be a Jewish person? Genuinely???

Like the Kippa and the curls, right? Except that we recognize that BECAUSE WE ARE JEWS lol. Is someone that is ignorant to what a Jew even is going to understand what it is? Other than an older man with a weird hat/hair??

It certainly couldn’t have been an Israeli flag. That would be a whole other issue.

Maybe a Star of David necklace would be more accurate to the modern Jew, I digress

Why does an infographic need to pander to someone so ignorant that their only way of knowing someone is Jewish is a the Nazi symbolism for a Jew? Why use a yellow star. Why not a white star since blue and white is the symbolic color of Tzittzit and associated with Judaism.

Again, my assumption is that the people making the characters are just as ignorant. I’m in an interfaith relationship, and even when they’re allies to our community, non-Jews do not know what tzitzit are. Most of the general public only know what they do about Jews because of WWII, including dog whistles, I digress. This isn’t an app for Jews. It’s a little game. I don’t think they put THAT much thought into it. And I’m not saying it’s not offensive AT ALL just that it’s wrong to assume malice

Oh now be for real. You would be more upset with traditional iconography that represents thousands of years of Jewish culture over a literal symbol used by Nazis to identify and round up Jews for slaughter? That is just Israel derangement syndrome.

Also putting a white star to replace the yellow one would nothing like the Israel flag. You are just reaching with that one.

No no no, *I* wouldn’t be! I think it’s possibly better fitting. But there are plenty of people in this sub alone that would drag us for likening Jews to Israel lol. I’m not arguing a white star wouldn’t still get the point across, just that they probably didn’t think about that. Although, idk, I googled the developers of the game and they’re based in Cyprus.

Even if there is no malice clearly OP and other Jews see the Nazi symbolism and are offended by it. I do not understand why you are going out of your way to try and tell other Jews to not be offended by Nazi symbolism even if it’s the only way some schmucks can identify a Jewish person. It doesn’t make it any less offensive to Jews. Would you tell someone “oh that racist depiction isn’t bad because it’s how people recognize you?”

It’s like you’re not wanting to read what I’m actually saying and just attributing what you want to believe I’m saying to my words. I quite literally said “I’m not saying it’s not offensive at all.”

when have i ever said that there was mal intent behind it? i’m pointing out that no matter what way you cut it, it’s wrong. you also said it’s reminiscent of the holocaust, but it quite literally IS from the holocaust.

I am reading what you’re saying. I don’t think you are reading what op and I are saying. We as Jews find the image offensive. It harkens to Nazi imagery of Jews. Whether it was done on purpose or out of ignorance doesn’t matter or make it any less offensive to Jews.

I just don’t find it that offensive. Does that make me less of a Jew than you, or can we just have different opinions about our interpretation of this? I just see this as a game developer caring more about making a depiction the most obvious to the greatest amount of global players.

Because you don’t find it offensive make it any less offensive to the people who do? I’m not questioning your Judaism and you are entitled to your opinion but that doesn’t discount other people’s opinion that find this offensive. It clearly invokes a reaction with some Jews whether that was the intention of the graphic or not.

And I never discounted any of y’all’s interpretations of this either?? As OP said I mostly agreed with everything said, I have conceded points multiple times, this entire time I have tried to be objective about this. I just don’t understand the need to breathe fire at each other over this.
