
This is a legitimate question about your though process and I am not trying to sound like I’m attacking you. But genuine question. Do we expect other people who are from areas we deem as occupied or colonized to not use their flag? The US was colonized and our ancestors did horrible things to the indigenous. Do Americans say we live in occupied indigenous land. Lots of other countries participate in wars people don’t agree with. Do we demand the Russian flag be taken down?
Do we tell them to not say the name of where they are from? Again, I understand being upset at the government, but why does the strong dislike only fall on Israel? Why only Jewish people? How do we show frustrations with a government without demonizing the citizens who cannot help where they are born?
Yes. I view the American flag as essentially a Nazi flag and it makes me uncomfortable whenever I seen it flown. I’ll use the words ‘America’ or the ‘US’ to talk about the state and its history but don’t at all identify with that label. We should start saying we live in turtle island, instead, but unfortunately most ppl just laugh at you when you use decolonial language and they don’t see our colonization as a big deal.
