Having the Palestinian flag, olive, or watermelon emoji in your social media handle is one thing. Whatever. Doesn’t entail terrorism. But what annoys me is the people who have the inverted red triangle. That’s direct support for antisemitism.

Okay I’m pro Palestine but people with the 🔻 in their handle always have some of the the weirdest and sometimes even genocidal ideologies 😭

Thats so weird, doesn’t that symbol come from Hamas using it to point to Israeli tanks and stuff they target in their propaganda? Even if someone supported Hamas it seems bizarre to label their profile with it. I guess it kinda looks like the triangle in their flag if it’s hung as a banner, but is there another meaning I’m not aware of?

Yes. Hamas would use the inverted red triangle to symbolize Jewish targets😑

Yes that’s where it comes from and it’s extremely common to see the inverted red triangle in people’s handles on watermelon Twitter

Idk why someone would want to put the “this is a target” symbol in their own bio, that’s so weird

Huh, I haven’t used Twitter in years so I haven’t run into that I’d assume at least some of those people just saw other people using it and copied without knowing the meaning, but that’s still hella weird

“More recently, Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, started using the inverted red triangle in propaganda videos to mark Israeli military targets before they were attacked. Due to this use by Hamas, some consider the inverted red triangle to be a symbol that glorifies violence and anti-Israel sentiment.”

well, colonialism is a violent process, so naturally the resistance will be violent. anyways, there is nothing anti-semitic in the Palestinian flag. symbols have meanings, and it appears you have an interest in misrepresenting said meanings

Here we go justifying antisemitic violence. Murdering innocent civilians isn’t resistance. Meanings evolve, it now is a terrorist symbol

anti-colonial violence ≠ anti-semitic violence. take the bad faith argument elsewhere

Murdering Jews is antisemitic. Take your antisemitism somewhere else.

Nah they know what it means. You get brownie points in those lefty circles if you broadcast that you want to kill Jews.

I would oppose and have discomfort with the usage of any symbol that associated specifically with Hamas, Hamas has killed civilians and yes that is not resistance. That is also not all Hamas does, and they also do fight against occupation by targeting valid military targets and from what I’ve seen they use that symbol to point to those targets like tanks, not with the music festival where they killed civilians It can be used in a way where it has that threat, but it doesn’t have to be

People murdering Jews on the basis of our status as Jews is antisemitic, not all people who have murdered Jews do so on that basis. There are certainly antisemites in Hamas who wish to murder Jews for that reason, there are also people who simply hate the country that has occupied and bombed their homes, has crippled and killed their friends and family and some of those people’s hate is enough they will murder innocent civilians out of misguided vengeance. Those are very distinct dynamics

My brother in rejection of Christ, you are not going to find a single member of Hamas who doesn’t also hate Jews for religious reasons. Be so fr rn

The leadership, yes, but not all the foot soldiers share the Islamist vision of the organization, it’s not like PIJ, there isn’t really a significant non-Islamist militant group in Gaza so if Gazan Muslims want to become militants they will do so through Hamas, some of those for religious reasons and others to act on their vendetta against Israel

I think generally lefties who hide their power level also think it’s cool when you signal your support for terrorist organizations as long as those terrorists are not white and anti-American.

Lefties who what? I think a lot of those kinds of people who do that kind of thing mostly are trying to be edgy, honestly, it unfortunately makes them and others more susceptible to actually being indoctrinated into some of this stuff
