I love BIGBANG and it was his effort and vision to even try to get K-Pop be seen as legitimate music, and not just music for kids, and not just a campy-weird thing for Westerners to get into. While yes BTS is the group that went huge, but G-Dragon really made an effort in terms of pushing things forward, everyone was influenced by G-Dragon.
I mean no not really, he was the only idol from a big company that was as involved in his work as he was though- not to invalidate his work- he was very involved in the fashion industry and while sm and jyp were conquering japan/china/sea, yg branched out to the west. Let’s not discredit 2NE1’s work here either. CL was everywhere with mainstream western artists in 2015 and 2NE1 worked w the black eyed peas back in the day too.
