it can be done in a healthy way but I feel like the people who put the most emphasis on it end up staying in toxic situations as if they're already committed to a marriage they won't walk away from

That is so fair, Its really sad when people do that. But I feel like it’s usually because they’re scared no one else will want to marry them and so they get stuck in that cycle.
