I think people also overlook how pink becoming rose can also be seen as a trans allegory. Pink’s design is more androgynous while rose is feminine and maternal, the only gem to be as feminine is white diamond. Also changing your name/shape/identity

Decided to rewatch Steven universe since I just had surgery and I have nothing better to do, and wow I forgot how well this show reads as a trans allegory, this scene alone is a perfect example but there’s so many more

Obviously it’s not as on the nose as it is with Steven since things like pronouns don’t change, but the way it’s handled is very similar to many trans people’s experiences including my own.

I imagine it may have crossed Rebecca’s mind as they were working the series. They have so, so many queer themes placed throughout!!
