the ppl who are guilty of this are gonna get mad and say it isn’t the oppression olympics, even though our experiences are belittled consistently in the community

i hate when people bring up the "oppression olympics" when it really is just a matter of understanding intersectionality

Frfr thank you 😭 the oppression Olympics is when someone is arguing that one type of oppression is worse than another. Full stop. It’s to remind people that the argument needs to be against the oppressors about getting rights for everyone, not arguing w each other abt who suffers more. Like, black vs disabled is oppression Olympics but black disabled vs white disabled is just understanding the compounding effect of the different types of oppression

Thank you I was trying to think about how to put it! It’s also when people are like “my life with X disability is much worse than yours” but we both have X disability it’s not a contest. There’s different struggles and then there’s stuff that makes your struggles hit different

Also for the direct disability comparisons, fuck anybody saying that shit because you don’t know my life. You don’t know how much I’m struggling. I have my shit together bcos I’m on enough ketamine to kill a horse, but I’m still in excruciating pain and cannot walk for more than a couple minutes without support.

It’s totally possible that they ARE suffering worse than I am and I acknowledge that in the same breath because I’m not claiming that either of us have it worse. I recognize that as much as they don’t know my body, I don’t know theirs. And, again, it doesn’t rlly fucking matter bcos shawty we both need better healthcare access 😭
