My mom said I could start when I was nineteen then got upset when I started. Why? Because she “didn’t think I’d actually do it”

Parents when they realize their child is their own unique individual and not a build a bear they get to customize how they want

You act like someone is supposed to be nonchalant that their child is about to become a completely different gender. Accept and support? Yes. But there is grief and surprise no matter how prepared you feel like they were

Many grow out of it. There are other ways to affirm gender too that doesn’t involve medicalization.

While that may be true that hormone therapy isn’t the answer for all, it’s monumental for some for their gender dysphoria! I think people should have free access, if it’s a genuine need and the person genuinely wants it and it will help them in many ways I think they should have it

I think a lot of parents and people close to those who know them before and after transitioning learn that the person themself rarely changes, what I mean is they’re still them, the same personality the same person. Just usually more comfortable more confident and if anything more themselves. Gender isn’t their entire personality. But initial confusion is normal for many yes, especially those less experience and educated on lgbt

I’ve heard the “ugly sweater” analogy and I kinda like it. You’re still the same person under everything, you’re just taking off an ugly uncomfortable over bearing sweater that someone else made you wear. And you’re still yourself beneath the fabric you can just breathe better and move more freely

literally exactly what happened to me, they just expected me to “grow out of it” even tho my identity stayed consistent for *years *

i’m not saying they gotta be nonchalant i’m saying they’ve had 10yrs to mentally prepare for me to medically transition and instead choose to turn a blind eye and hope it just goes away 💀

I just say this because I am not trusting of our for profit health care system. Often these kids are rushed without understanding any consequence or being evaluated for other instances of mental abnormalities. I want the best for trans kids and I fear we don’t have the best

If you were concerned about a for profit healthcare system then how do you explain trans people in countries with universal healthcare?

I’m confused what the point of your question is?

i think they’re saying that other countries that provide access to hrt and have universal healthcare programs generally see less negative statistics about trans teens (lower suicide/depression rates, lower rates of homelessness & unemployment, better physical health)
