Currently planning on coming out as AroAce + NB to my parents but like… how tf do you even begin a conversation like that. I can’t just do the stereotypical “Mom, Dad, I’m gay” thing here.

tbh I'm aroace and I never plan on telling my family, they won't understand it and I just don't think it's worth it however if you think they'd be understanding and support you then I'm sure it's worth it! just consider the possible outcomes but coming out as nb is important I think, especially if you use different pronouns or want to change your name. for your own comfort if nothing else bc I can't imagine it feels good to be deadnamed/have the wrong pronouns used I wish you luck!!

Also my enby realization is recent, so I’m not sure exactly how I feel about my pronouns and possibly changing my name l. Maybe I should wait until I have more concrete answers to come out?

There’s something to be said for being yourself openly, but I prefer coasting along never telling my parents I’m bi gray aroace and some kind of genderqueer. They either guess or they don’t, but I don’t have the energy to hold their hand through it.

Also, I think it’s worth considering what you hope the outcome of coming out to your family will be, and then realistically whether that will actually be achieved.

I’m leaning towards waiting, but that’s just my personal opinion. I think there’s nothing wrong with going through changes or phases in one’s self-concept, but depending on how informed and accepting your family is, bringing them in too early could risk them thinking “it’s just a phase” or that you’re confused or noncommittal

Admittedly many queer people don’t have the luxury of flying under the radar, so if you want to be in solidarity with them, that could be a motivator for coming out. B jt It really varies by person and situation imo.

These are all really good points you’ve brought up. Ty for the feedback (and the funny meme lmao)
